Professor Philip Barnes (Kings College, London) here responds to a recent article by Trevor Cooling and Bob Bowie in which they claim that Christian Theology (alongside 24 other ‘worldviews’ listed by CoRE) can become a conversation partner with a ‘worldviews’ approach to RS.
Barnes claims that worldviews approach to religion will not only narrow the way religion is presented to pupils, but that a ‘worldviews’ approach, with its focus on the ‘lived experience of individual’ students, struggles to evidence its claim to be able to provide intellectual resources to overcome the ‘crisis’ in RS.
